Journey Across Italy- Day 3

Day 3- Wednesday December 21

Our first full, real day in Italy! Time to get sightseeing in Rome, nicknamed the Eternal City. The ancient Romans believed that no matter what happened to the world, how many empires rose or fell, that Rome would go on forever. So far they haven’t been wrong and that same feeling still resonates today and is part of what draws more than 10 million visitors every year.

We started at the Spanish Steps, walked to the Trevi Fountain and then took the metro to the part of town commonly called Ancient Rome. This part of town has most of the major ruins, including Massimo Circus, the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. We didn’t tour any of these on this day but walked around and got lunch right next to the Colosseum. Then we took the metro again to St. Paul’s Basilica, commonly known as St. Paul’s Outside the Walls. On our way home for the evening we stopped at a convenience store near our airbnb and got a Christmas tree so Santa would have a place to put the presents come Christmas Day.
