Journey Across Italy- Day 10

Day 10- Wednesday, December 28th

Milan! Though less touristy and with fewer famous attractions, we really enjoyed the bustling metropolis which felt the most modern and “American” of all our stops. The city is extremely easy to get around; there is an underground metro but also a wider system of trams with stops every few blocks. We had one almost directly outside our hotel which ran up and down a busy boulevard with lots of shops and restaurants.

Starting with Sforza Castle, we walked up Via Dante trough some great shopping to the Cathedral and then around the corner to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The Galleria is beautiful and is often touted as having the best shopping in the city but pocketbooks be warned, it’s strictly high end designers- Prada, Gucci, etc. There we took a special picture; in 1966 Barb’s grandfather sent a postcard to the rest of the family from Milan, the the picture on the postcard was from this spot!

Back closer to our hotel we found a more affordable mall-like shopping center and had dinner at nearby restaurant which served risotto Milanese- hands down my favorite dish of the entire trip.

Sights seen: Sforza Castle, Milan Cathedral, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
