Journey Across Italy-Day 1
Day 1- Monday December 19th.
Technically we weren’t IN Italy for day 1, this was just getting the airport and on the plane but it was a big deal for us; first international flight for the kids ever and the first for my parents in 35 years. (Girls are 11 and 7, mom and dad are 70 and 66 respectively.) We sprung for a limo to get us all there together which our youngest loved and our driver was even Italian! We packed one small suitcase for each of the girls that they could manage themselves and every adult had 2 suitcases. We also each had an additional personal item (backpack or big purse) for the plane. I wouldn’t normally have needed so much luggage but we were packing presents for Christmas plus bulky coats and other winter clothing. We flew Delta economy, on an A330 direct from Hartsfield-Jackson ( ATL) to Rome (FCO). Our flight was scheduled for 8pm which is typical of European bound flights from the US. Bag drop and security were normal and we had plenty of time to catch dinner at the TGIFridays in the interational terminal before taking off. The flight was delayed by about 30 minutes and we bought the girls neck pillows which ended up being a good call. They did really well over; watched some shows, didn’t eat the dinner but that was expected (no one really likes plane food right?) hence the sit down at Fridays. We “made them” go to sleep around 10.30pm and the neck pillows helped but it was still hard for them to get comfortable. We arrived in Rome around 11:30am local time for a total of about a 9hr flight.
